Another BEAUTIFUL Saturday, filled with fun , excitement and anticipation!! Getting ready to can , probably, the last Jalapeños of the season,

while watching Game Day and a day full of College Football! The "BIG ONE" being at 7:00PM!

{A few hours later}

A word of wisdom from someone who should have listened to her own words of wisdom...NEVER attempt to cut up Jalapeños when you have cuts on your hands, and at the same time touch ANYWHERE around ones eyes! Burn Baby Burn!!
{A few hours later}
What a game!! My boys made Gatormeat out of Florida!
Nothing like an evening with my husband as we cheer on the Tide!

Happy Dances, good eats and the Jalapeño burn is gone...
31-6!
That's the way we like to ROLL with the TIDE!

The Boys of Fall

When I feel that chill and smell that wet cut grass
I'm back in my helmet cleats and shoulder pads
Standin in the huddle listenin to the call
Fans going crazy for the boys of fall

They didn't let just anybody in that club
Took every ounce of heart and sweat and blood
To get to wear those game day jerseys down the hall
King of the school man we're the boys of fall

Well it's turnin' to face the stars and stripes
It's fighting back them butterflies
It's call it in the air alright, yes sir we want the ball
And it's knockin heads and talkin trash
It's slinging mud and dirt and grass
It's I got your number, I got your back
When your backs against the wall
You mess with one man you got us all
The Boys of Fall

In little towns like mine it's all they got
Newspapers clippings fill the coffee shops
The old men will always think they know it all
Young girls will dream of The Boys of Fall

Well it's turnin' to face the stars and stripes
It's fighting back them butterflies
It's call it in the air, alright yes sir we want the ball
And it's knockin heads and talkin trash
It's slinging mud and dirt and grass
It's I got your number, I got your back
When your backs against the wall
You mess with one man you got us all
The Boys of Fall

The LONG anticipated event has finally arrived...ALABAMA football !!!  I have counted down to the first game for months and now it's here and the season is on!!!

The game starts and neither of us rarely sit down through the whole game!  Side by side, in front of the television, we both stand, focusing on each and every play. We each make  a dash to the kitchen for a nibble of something, between plays.  Shouts of excitement echo through the house when there is a bad call, fumbled ball or an intercepted pass. A time out called and it's time for the bathroom dash!
But ...when there is a touchdown, the "HAPPY DANCE" starts! (kind of like the Irish Jig!) Interlaced with shouts of victory we whirl around and make complete fools of ourselves! Who cares though, we are having a blast!!!
To many people, it's just a game, but to a REAL Alabama fan it's an event! My husband John and I so look forward to each and every game.  Our excitement builds through out the week.  We make it into a celebration each time we prepare to watch the game!  I prepare lots of snacks like chicken wings, nachos, shrimp, oysters, chips,dips...just to name a few.  Of course I have my Alabama attire on, as much as I can possibly wear!  Jersey's, T-shirts, earrings, bracelet, necklace, pants, scarf, hat, purse and of course red and white shakers!  John gets all decked out too!  He's a great sport!
Of course attending a game is TOTALLY AWESOME!! You cannot beat the feeling that you get when you look out over the Crimson tide football field for the 1st time!  The roar of the fans is beyond anything I have ever heard!  You just get this intense excitement and feeling that your in the presence of something extraordinary! Wow!
It doesn't matter where we are when the game starts, we have just GOT to be there, together!!! So far we are 2-0, and another game coming this weekend with Duke!  We will be SOMEWHERE to listen, or watch the game...and if I have to work? ...it will be DVR'd !!! My anticipation has already started!! I'm ready for some CRIMSON TIDE FOOTBALL, ROLLLL TIDE!!!

This Old Cat

I came across this wonderful poem that could have been written by John and I about our dear, sweet cat, Lacy. We were lucky enough to come up on this little sweetie 17 years ago at a local State Park where someone had dropped her off.  She wasn't a kitten so she is probably right at 19 years old! We have been so blessed since the day she came into our life!

This Old Cat

I'm getting on in years,

My coat is turning gray.

My eyes have lost their luster,

My hearing's just okay.

I spend my day dreaming

Of conquests in my past,

Lying near a sunny window

Waiting for its warm repast.

I remember our first visit,
I was coming to you free,
Hoping you would take me in
And keep me company.

I wasn't young or handsome,
Two years I'd roamed the street.
There were scars upon my face,
I hobbled on my feet.

I could sense your disappointment
As I left my prison cage.
Oh, I hoped you would accept me
And look beyond my age.

You took me out of pity,
I accepted without shame.
Then you grew to love me,
And I admit the same.

I have shared with you your laughter,
You have wet my fur with tears.
We've come to know each other
Throughout these many years.

Just one more hug this morning
Before you drive away,
And know I'll think about you
Throughout your busy day.

The time we've left together
Is a treasured time at that.
My heart is yours forever.
I Promise - This old cat.

It's been a good day today!

I am off from the ol' K and lovin' being at home! The rain has been falling most of the day, but I have loved seeing, hearing and feeling the drops fall.  I feel more energized to get things done around the house when it's raining.
One of John's friends sent us a sack of okra a few days ago.  I fried a bunch one night(talk about awesome...yuuuummm!) and decided to pickle several jars today.
I have come to love canning!  It's so relaxing and with the rain fallin' outside...it just made for a perfect day.  My tomato garden is winding down (except for the tommy toes...anyone need any???) I canned a few jars of regular tomatoes ,with the little that are coming in.  After cleaning up the kitchen, I admired those beautiful jars of bright green okra and deep red tomatoes.  Even though I look forward to eating all my garden treasures, the colorful canned veggies are just as great to look at.  I have an open shelf in the kitchen that I use just for displaying my garden jewels.  Salsa, spaghetti sauce, pickled peppers, bread and butter pickles, okra and tomatoes line the shelves.
Mother and Daddy stopped by to visit today, also.  Daddy always gives the horn a "toot" as they drive up into the driveway, so I can always tell when they are here. I love it when they come to visit. I shared a jar of pickled peppers and some raw okra with them. Mother and I are always sharing our goodies with each other.  She constantly surprises me at work by sending daddy in with a goody bag filled with her own baked treasures. My eyes always light up when I see Daddy comin' with a little bag in hand!!!

Life is just so good...the simpler the better.  The name of my blog says it all...Livin' life, lovin' life...It's been a good day today!
