Simon left a cat shaped hole in my heart

The wonderful day I met Simon...August 15, 2005

The day I saw this sweet little stray peering through our back fence is now a precious memory in my life .
I invited him to become part of my family and he in turn, he invited me into his little heart. His name was Simon.
He grew into a "Big" kitty, and became a real part of the family.
He always sat in the window on an old sewing machine table awaiting my arrival home. Seeing his golden face watching for me was such a joy.
He loved being close to me. At night he snuggled up as close as possible to be and fell asleep purring , very loudly, ha! If I were on my laptop, he was there too. On my lap and my computer.
The back yard pond was a peaceful place for him to rest and relax.
He chose very few people to let inside of his sweet heart, and I feel so blessed he allowed me. He wan't just a cat,
he was my forever friend.
Thank God for allowing this sweet soul to share his life with me.
My faithful furry, friend Simon crossed over "Rainbow Bridge" leaving a big cat shaped hole in my heart.

He was so skinny...

I had to lure him in with food

Cat Kisses

Sandpaper kisses on a cheek or a chin.
That's the way for a day to begin!

Sandpaper kisses, a cuddle and a purr.
I have an alarm clock covered in fur!

They will not go quietly,
the cats who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.

Old habits still make us think
we hear a meow at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.

Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.

And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them. . . and always will.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Simon meets Preslie for the first time 10-2012

I miss you so much; my four-legged friend
I ask myself each day; if the pain will ever end
Your loss is so hard; for one person to bear
because we were a team; an inseparable pair

You were by my side; when I got up each day
waiting so patiently; to go out and play
You were there each night; when I got home
waiting to go to the park; where you could roam

You always knew; if I was having a bad day
so you'd snuggle up close; and try to get me to play
If that didn't work; you'd put your head in my lap
then make yourself comfortable; and take a nap

One way or another you; would brighten my day
like only you could; you had a special way
You gave me a lifetime; of memories to hold
through all the years ahead; till I'm gray and old

I promise I'll see you; again one day
when we'll be together again; to go run and play
Your loss is a cross; I will just have to bear
because you and I know; we're an inseparable pair

  1. As I look at the many images of sweet Simon, tears fill my eyes ans I think of the many, many times I visited you and Simon, along with his fellow kitty companions. As you said, he chose certain people to bestow his favor upon, and I was honored to be one of these. He would come to me and lift his chin requesting in his own way a scratch behind his ears or under his chin. then he would wind back and forth against my legs asking for a back scratch to top it off. I thought of simon as my special Grand-Kitty..and he certainly was. Laura, this whole family was blessed to know and love Simon Kitty Cat.
If there is a Rainbow Ridge, then Simon and Lacy are chasing butterflies down by the pond right now.
    I love you,
    Mother
